Theme Group on Tourism – developing rural tourism

The Rural Policy Committee, appointed by the Finnish Government, is a cooperation body which aims to promote the well-being of the rural areas in various ways. At present there are 13 fixed-term cross-sectoral theme groups, assigned a specific but quite broad topic to work on.

The theme group on tourism has been in operation for 17 years. It has taken the development work of rural tourist industry into a more systematic direction; programmability and sustainability have increased on all levels. Tourism is the trend-setter for the new, industrial role of rural areas as places of services and prosperity.
